Something special is taking place on January 31st…. a rare treat in the sky known as the ‘Super Blue Blood Moon’! This is when a total lunar eclipse and a blue moon happen at the same time. Fox News posted ‘no one has set eyes on this in 150 years in America’. Otherwise, the last time this happened was 35 years ago. Can you believe its happening tomorrow?

So what exactly does this mean? A supermoon is when the moon is at it’s closest point to the earth. A blue moon occurs when two full moons happen in the same calendar month. The blood moon name comes from the reddish hue that will be reflected onto the moon from the earth’s atmosphere. The three events happening simultaneously is a very rare event. The eclipse will last a total of 3.5 hours and the total eclipse for 77 minutes.

If you are looking to get a glimpse of this special trifecta in the sky, National Geographic says that the moon will officially reach its full phase at 8:27 am ET on January 31st. The moon will appear seven percent larger and 14 percent brighter than it usually is!

If you capture a photo, we’d love to see it at Toronto Beach Dental! Tag us in your photo on social media. Happy skywatching!
