Don’t Disregard Your Diet!

December 2, 2016
We all know that good oral hygiene is essential for good oral health. Without it we would be prone to gum disease and tooth decay. We also need to be aware that a healthy diet is important. We all  know that Calcium is the building block of teeth and bones. We therefore need to consume enough of it to help fight bone loss and tooth softening (and tooth development when we’re younger). We also need to make sure there is enough Phosphorus and Vitamin D in our diet to help us absorb it. Vitamin C is a must for good gum health. Without it we would suffer from “scurvy”  like those sailors way back that had no access to fresh fruit or meat. Vitamin A helps us with salivary flow.  Iron helps our immune system. Vitamin E can help as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. Vitamin B can also help with inflammation and can help fight off chancre sores.

So make sure you have a balanced diet and, as always, keep sugars and acidic foods to a minimum.
