Month: January 2018

January 30, 2018

Something special is taking place on January 31st…. a rare treat in the sky known as the ‘Super Blue Blood Moon’! This is when a total lunar eclipse and a blue moon happen at the same time. Fox News posted ‘no one has set eyes on this in 150 years in America’. Otherwise, the last time this happened was 35 years ago. Can you believe its happening tomorrow?

So what exactly does this mean? A supermoon is when the moon is at it’s closest point to the earth. A blue moon occurs when two full moons happen in the same calendar month. The blood moon name comes from the reddish hue that will be reflected onto the moon from the earth’s atmosphere. The three events happening simultaneously is a very rare event. The eclipse will last a total of 3.5 hours and the total eclipse for 77 minutes.

If you are looking to get a glimpse of this special trifecta in the sky, National Geographic says that the moon will officially reach its full phase at 8:27 am ET on January 31st. The moon will appear seven percent larger and 14 percent brighter than it usually is!

If you capture a photo, we’d love to see it at Toronto Beach Dental! Tag us in your photo on social media. Happy skywatching!

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root constructed of titanium metal that is placed into your jaw. Often it’s function is to help support a crown, denture or bridge. Depending on the case, a dental implant is a good solution for a long-term tooth replacement. If you are considering a dental implant option, here’s a few important things you should know.

  1. A high success rate. Dental implant procedures typically have a high success rate without any major complications. Dentists are trained for this procedure.
  2. A natural feel. Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth. A dentist can customize the look to match your other teeth. Others will never know the difference!
  3. Overall easier functions. Another great benefit to implants is that they don’t interfere with daily activities. You’ll be able to eat, drink and brush your teeth like normal!
  4. A good root replacement. A dental implant covers more than just a cosmetic look. Since the implant goes below the jawline, it helps to fix parts of the tooth that cannot be seen. They essentially trick the jaw bone into thinking there is a root there and promote new tissue to grow around the implant, which creates a natural bond between the bone and metal.
  5. Keep your healthy teeth. Often a solution for a lost tooth is a dental bridge. However, sometimes a bridge can require shaving down surrounding teeth to properly balance the bridge. An implant helps so that a dental bridge can be used along with it. Other teeth do not have to suffer!

Often a dental implant is a great replacement for a missing tooth. To learn if you are a good candidate or for more questions about dental implant procedures in Toronto, contact us at Toronto Beach Dental!

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment used for correcting different alignment issues for both teenager’s and adult’s teeth. Metal braces are no longer the only option available for achieving a straight and beautiful smile. Nowadays, a more subtle and comfortable approach is available.

One of the limitations of the traditional metal braces is that they are constantly attached to your teeth during treatment. Compared to metal braces, Invisalign treatment is safe and easy to remove at home. Invisalign treatment uses a series of clear and removable aligners to guide a patient’s teeth into a new position. There is no glint of metal in sight! Invisalign offers many advantages that patient’s love. A patient can easily take the aligners out to eat, drink and to clean or brush their teeth. They will be able to easily keep up their dental hygiene routine during treatment. The aligners are also clear, which make them barely visible to the untrained eye. The freedom to straighten your teeth without the restrictions of metal braces has never been more appealing, thanks to Invisalign!
