Dental Sealants Near You

Sealants are coatings of plastic that are applied to the chewing surfaces and are created to prevent the intrusion of bacteria and other food debris into the crevices on the tops of teeth.

Sealants are plastic coatings that are placed over the chewing surfaces of back molars and designed to prevent the buildup of bacteria and food debris into the deep fissures and crevices on the tops of molars.

Sealants were created about 50 years ago but only started becoming commonly used in the 1970s. Presently, sealants are very popular and effective. The best time to seal teeth is when they first erupt into the mouth, effectively preventing decay before it gets a chance to begin.

Application:

Sealants are applied after the surface of the tooth has been cleaned. After the procedure, the tooth will be “etched” with a chemical substance that allows the sealant to bond to the tooth better. Once the sealant is applied, a curing light is shone over the site to harden the material. Sealants may need reapplication every five to 10 years but are well worth the time.
